Blink Code Decoder

Genie Blink Codes

LED flash patterns, likely causes, and fixes for every Genie platform.

IntelliG 1000 / 1200

Commercial operator with IntelliCode technology. Board has red and green diagnostic LEDs.

Where to look: Two LEDs (red and green) located near the center of the control board, below the transformer. Red is the top LED, green is the bottom LED.

Red ×1 / Green ×0

Safety Device Open

External safety device (photo eye, edge sensor) circuit is open.

1. Check all safety device wiring. 2. Test devices individually by disconnecting. 3. Look for cut wires or corroded terminals.

Red ×2 / Green ×0

Safety Device Short

External safety device circuit is shorted.

1. Inspect wiring for bare wire shorts. 2. Disconnect safety devices to isolate the fault. 3. Replace damaged wiring or devices.

Red ×1 / Green ×1

Wall Station Held Open

The open/close wall station input is continuously active.

1. Check wall station button. 2. Disconnect wall station wiring at the board — if error clears, replace the station. 3. Check for water intrusion in the station.

Red ×3 / Green ×0

RPM / Encoder Error

Motor encoder is not detecting rotation. Motor may be jammed or encoder disc damaged.

1. Check encoder disc on motor shaft for damage or debris. 2. Verify the motor shaft rotates freely. 3. Inspect encoder sensor wiring. 4. Replace encoder if defective.

Red ×2 / Green ×1

Force Limit Exceeded

Door encountered excessive resistance during travel. Binding, broken spring, or obstruction.

1. Disconnect operator and check door balance. 2. Inspect springs, rollers, and track for issues. 3. Increase force setting if door moves freely by hand.

Red ×4 / Green ×0

Motor Overload / Thermal

Motor has overheated or drawn excessive current for an extended period.

1. Allow motor to cool. 2. Check door balance and binding. 3. Verify motor capacitor value with a meter. 4. Check for seized gearbox.

Red ×3 / Green ×1

Travel Limits Not Set

Open and/or close travel limits have not been programmed.

1. Enter limit programming mode per installation manual. 2. Set open limit, then close limit. 3. Run a full test cycle.

Red ×0 / Green ×1

Normal / Standby

No fault present. Operator is in standby and ready.

No action needed. This is normal operation.

Red ×5 / Green ×0

Control Board Fault

Internal microprocessor or relay failure on the control board.

1. Power cycle the unit. 2. If error persists, replace the control board.

Red ×2 / Green ×2

Timer Close Fault

Auto-close timer was interrupted or safety device activated during timed close.

1. Check safety devices are clear and aligned. 2. Verify timer-to-close settings. 3. Press wall station to reset.

Excelerator / ReliaG

Residential screw drive and belt drive operators. Single diagnostic LED on the motor unit.

Where to look: Single LED on the back of the powerhead, visible from below when looking up at the unit. It is separate from the 'Program' button LED on the side panel.

Safety Sensor Open

Safe-T-Beam sensor circuit is open. Wire disconnected or sensor unplugged.

1. Check sensor connections at both ends. 2. Look for damaged wire. 3. Test with multimeter.

Common part: 36450A (Safe-T-Beam set)

2 blinks

Safety Sensor Short

Safe-T-Beam circuit is shorted.

1. Inspect wire run. 2. Disconnect sensors — if clears, replace sensors. 3. Check for pinched cable.

3 blinks

Wall Console Shorted

Wall console button or wiring is stuck active.

1. Disconnect wall console wires. 2. If clears, replace console or repair wiring.

4 blinks

Sensor Misalignment

Safe-T-Beam sensors are powered but not aligned.

1. Realign sensors until both indicator LEDs are solid. 2. Clean lenses. 3. Check for vibration-caused misalignment — tighten brackets.

5 blinks

Motor Limit Error

Travel limits are lost or the motor stalled before reaching a limit position.

1. Reprogram travel limits. 2. For screw drives, check the limit switches on the rail. 3. Lubricate screw rail if applicable.

6 blinks

Motor Overload

Motor has overheated or drew excessive current.

1. Let motor cool. 2. Check door balance. 3. Lubricate track and hinges.
